To start of my reviews i’d like to tell first about the half bad weather. I’d say that it was half bad because it stopped just right before the shows. Tough luck for germany eh?? Well when we crossed the road going to the san miguel by the bay the rain was not so hard yet but it was getting harder and harder which made me scared that the shows might be cancelled but lucky enough the shows was still able to push through i kept asking my friend if it was still pushing through or not. Before the rain totally went out me and the person who was with me went to power station that is located in san miguel by the bay so we played some games there until i saw that the rain was coming out a bit so we went out and we already positioned ourselves beside the boundaries between the vip area and the general admission area. WE waited for some hours and then the show started!!
First was China’s Glorious group Germany’s Nico-Lunig. They used different crackling effects as their introduction. There was thousand crackling Chrysanthenums above, electric comets on mid air and just a bit below some green peony with crackling tails. After that they showed the fireworks color by color i think it started with yellow then red then blue. Some of the effects i remember where crossettes with tails, peony, dahlias, color changing peony. double cored chrysanthenums with tail in the outer core and the whole shell has a tail, white strobes, salutes, palms, silver willows, silver comet roman candle, blue to yellow mines, blue with gold mines, fanned tiger tail crossette cakes, fanned green crossette with tails, charcoal to color willows, double concentric rings, white comet rings to stafe shuttles, white comet crossette rings, peony with tails, spirals, v formation cakes that has different crackling comet effects ending into small thousand crackling chrysanthenums, glitter comet shell of shells, and blue multibreak shell of shells. Some of the more memorable moment of their display was when those huge double cored chrysanthemum were angled in such a way that the tails of the shells will cross each other. It’s also surprising that the timing was with the break of the crossettes and the break of some other shells. It would have been much more interesting if the pattern of the roman candle was completed. Another part I liked was when there was many small blue to crackle shells was going on and behind that was salutes. It was clever how they tried to hide salutes under the crackles.
It was interesting to see how they had many shells to represent the boundary between each segment of the display. I guess that’s all I could say about china’s Germany’s display. The experience watching it in the general admission section was incomparable to any of the other displays we’ve seen experienced from the pass. Due to the closeness of the barge, we would receive all sorts of paper pieces from the shells and some even going to our eyes hahaha!! Definitely an unforgettable one. At the end you’ll see paper pieces flying everywhere and the wind was going towards us making some of the shells look faded because of the smoke. Being all of these said it was still quite an experience hehehe! The sky distribution of the shells were not as good as last year. They had better use of space also year.
The last show of the night was by Germany’s Nico-Lunig event GMBH China’s Glorious group. The effects used where quite the same with china Germany only with the addition of the great nautical shells that had silver comets and green with silver tail crossettes. They started of the display with I think about 15 roman candles making a fan effect with one pointing to the left, then up, then another pointing to the right. Together with this Candles where different pattern shells and they had some perfect red hearts. The display stopped for 5 second and then the next segment began. I think that it was the multi level color changing peonies. After that was another pause then the next segment which was I think those yellow dahlias and yellow peony with tails. I’m not sure about the order of the segments haha. There was a segment where it started with the fanned green crossettes and some crossette shells above. This segment ended with some great nautical crossettes. Then there was one segment that made just completely out of some nice flittering charcoal willows (I think) you know the ones with tails that looked like they had some small spots of gold in them? Heheh! One segment was made out of different crackling effects starting with electric comets then thousand crackling chrys, crackling comet to green peony, and ended with crackling willows. They kept doing the part with red peony with tails, then some dahlias, then a big blue dahlia, then a big white dahlia that looked like it had salutes on the middle which I liked very much because of the power of the shells. The last segment that I’ll talk about will be the ones with charcoal willow to green effects then the one with charcoal willow to red effects. At one point in the show they also used some great white comet nautical shells firing from both ends of the barge which was a pleasant surprise because I didn’t expect any nautical fireworks this year. That’s all about the great display of germany. The shells had great timing. The 5 second pauses didn’t make the display ugly but it made the segment much clearer. Their finale was awesome, not because it was long, big or saluteful but because of the surprise at the end. So the finale started with the small multi colored shells and then some bigger shells added up in the sky then it build up. It stopped with a big bombardment then we called see the small multi colored shells continuing I thought that it was just a left over of those things but then another barrage of shells came out this time being white comet peonies. So after that the multi colored shells toned down until there was nothing already just when the last one popped all the people were surprised because we all heard barrages of shells firing and at first it was quite scary because the angles were quite over sided so the shells started to break starting with red, orange, yellow, blue, then purple it made a fan effect from right to left making a great rainbow pattern which was another pleasant surprise. It’s great that China knew what they lacked in their display last year, these was the nautical shells. I guess their show just gets better and better!
Today’s champion for me was Germany China. Please if you’ve got comments put it up and if you want you can post your own revies as comments.
Tell me your own opinions on the shows.
Due to some technical problems there was a final minute change in schedule. First who fired was Germany’s Nico-Lunig and the second was China’s Glorious. I guess that explains why Germany had some of those great Italian multibreak shell of shells and multibreak shells.

In my post about the World Pyro Olympics 2008, I kept mentioning about the montreal fireworks competition. As I’ve said it’s my favorite pyromusical competition in the world! Each country has 30 minutes to show their pyromusical proness. The competition takes place in La Ronde, Montreal, Canada. This year i think that the participants are quite strong! One of them is actually joining the World Pyro Olympics yey! hehe!
So here’s the schedule:

June 28 – Italy – Pirotecnia Morsani
July 5 – South Korea – Hanhwa Corporation
July 12 – Portugal – Luso Pirotecnia (My favorite hehehe)
July 19 – Australia – Howards and Sons
july 23 – Canada – Garden City Display Fireworks
july 26 – Austria – Pyrovision GMBH.
july 30 – U.S.A – Pyrotecnico

Once again La Mancha Pyro Productions is organizing the third installment of the by now popular fireworks competition called World Pyro Olympics which is held in the famous Mall Of Asia. The event this year had a lot of problems with the schedule which could be obviously seen from the lousy changing of the schedules. I’ll try to update all of you everytime there’s something new about it! The latest schedule that came out is all saturdays of May starting from May 3 to May 31. As of now the participating countries who are competing are Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Venezuela. On the last night of the even the Philippines will show its proness with their own classical fireworks display.
Since I’m not new to all the participating countries, i’ll tell you a little bit about them.
Australia- Explosive productions is the same company as Show Fx. They won the 1st World Pyro Olympics and they produced the show of Westcoast fireworks in the 2nd World Pyro Olympics which also won. Their designer Anthony Foti was part of the firm Foti ’s fireworks which i known for their great displays in sydney australia.
Canada- This company is quite a new company but the designer is not new to the fireworks scene. Patrice guy has designed Pyromagic Productions’ bronze jupiter winning entry of Pyromagic in the Montreal fireworks competition which is the best pyromusical competition in the world for me. He also designed Glorious’ (china) show for the 10th Symposium on fireworks which people thought was a very competitive pyromusical show.
China- Glorious fireworks is one of the top fireworks manufacturer in the world. Last year they received a special award in the World Pyro Olympics. The award they received is the award for technical excellence. This was obvious with their display, specially how apparent their segments where. The combinations of the effects were great as well. What also got me into their show last year was their fast but great stepper sequence. A stepper sequence is a sequence made with roman candles. They are timed so that they could like their chasing each other.
France – Fetes Et Feux is a new company for me. They won second place in Fiori Di fuoco, Omegna, Italy beating countries from Poland, Russia, and our very own La Mancha Pyro Productions. I think that the strength of their shows is the artistic aspect of it. They have competed in the Cannes Pyrotechnique Festival and in Nuits De Feu which is also in france. Both competitions are one of the top pyromusical competitions.
Germany – Nico-Lunig is a popular brand in Germany. They have won quite a number of awards from the montreal fireworks competition. Unfortunately they’re the first team i saw in the World Pyro Olympics who had an obvious technical problem. This happened in the 2005 competition where their digital firing system got soaked in water due to strong rain before their display. After 5 minutes of their display. they had to stop and make Korea go first then they went back again to show their great display. Last year i’d rank their show 4th because of their great use of space.
Italy – Parente has been a great italian fireworks company. Their one of my favorites. They have great one shot devices and they have some great cylindrical fireworks which we might want to wait for. They have won in many different fireworks competition. They have won in the Courchevel fireworks competition. They’ve competed in Nuits De Feu, montreal fireworks competitions, Pyronale and they have their own fireworks competition called the Fiori di Fuoco.
Japan – Marutamaya-Ogatsu has to be one of my favorites also. Just like all japanese fireworks company, They have great spherical fireworks. Their star spacing is great and the symetry of their fireworks are great. They also have great pattern shells. Pattern shell are the ones that has many different shapes like a smiley face, apple, heart, atom shells, hello kitty face, and a figure of a man are a few of the examples. If you’ve seen the show of La Mancha in 2007 they used some of the great fireworks of Marutamaya in the beginning. Marutamaya is one of the pioneers of the use of digital stepper sequence and one of the best at it aswell! They have joined in the champion of champions competition in the montreal fireworks competition. Unfortunately they didn’t win but just to qualify to join there means that they have won in that competition many times before.
Korea – Hanhwa is not new to the World Pyro Olympics. They showed a great display in 2005. Showing what people called the magic carpet effect which we might want to anticipate for this coming competition. This year, they are also joining in the montreal fireworks competition for the second time. They have their own competition called the Seoul fireworks competition. They also have some great fireworks.
Venezuela – Venefuegos is a fairly new company. They have joined the Sound of Light competition in Ontario Canada. They also have won second place in Fiori Di Fuoco fireworks competition. In that competition they beat our winner Show Fx australia.
I hope that we’ll enjoy this years competition and for once don’t be bothered too much by the traffic because anywhere there’s an event this big we should all expect traffic anyways. And this traffic only means more tourism hehe.!
I heard that ticket prices would raise from 100 pesos to 150 pesos and VIP tickets would cost 1500 pesos. Tickets will be sold in the more popular ticket selling stations like Ticketnet.
