So the macau fireworks competition has also ended here’s the winners list!
1st – Brezac Artifice – France
2nd – Tamaya Arts – Japan
3rd – Wan Dar Fireworks – Taiwan
Due to technical problems, and a lost of 1 day for set up, philippines team wasn’t able to show their intended piece. Even though this happened, (through videos in youtube) their show was already great!

This year La Mancha Pyro Productions will be showing their pyromusical proness in the Hannover Fireworks Competition. They will be going against France, Canada, Portugal, and Denmark. As of now I’m not sure of what kind of pyromusical they will be showing but I’m sure that it must be one hell a lot of Pyromusical if they want to win. I’ve been looking forward to this competition every year! To my surprise Philippines will be joining! yehey! For those of you who thinks that we’ve got incompetent fireworks you might want to think again! Last year’s winner of this competition was Macedos Pirotecnia of Portugal. Before that Pyrotechnic yard of peterhof, Russia (2006), Fuegos Artificiales Jupiter, Argentina (2005) and Goteborg Fyverkeri, Sweden won the title for three consecutive years 2002, 2003, 2004. Will it be their time to shine this year?? we’ll see again!
This year’s music that should be used by all contestant is storm – Vanessa Mae.
Here’s the schedule:
10 May 2008 Portugal – Macedo’s Pirotecnia
14 June 2008 France – Intermède
30 August 2008 Philippines – La Mancha Pyro Productions Inc.
13 September 2008 Denmark – Tinghojgard Fyrvaerkerifabrik
27 September 2008 Canada – Syrius Pyro

After 1 week of waiting it was time again for me to witness the World Pyro Olympics. This time the rain came in later and it just got hard right before the first display! Whoo bad luck huh?? Hehe!! I guess this bad luck all turns around when you’re talking from a pyro enthusiast’s view of point! It makes a whole lot of difference hahah!! This was because the two shows today were so great that all I thought was that the “real” competition is starting. Finally I saw some real salutes!! Hahaha!! I was so wet during the display hehe!! So it’s show time.
Pyro Studios of Canada
They started their display with a giant green chrysanthemum if I’m not mistaken. I really didn’t see it I just saw the tail come out because I was inside a restaurant because of the heavy rain. Anyways that’s how it all started. After that were different segments. Sorry I’m not sure about the order so ill just explain each of the segments that I can remember!
First one I could remember was the red and green rings with crackling centers in a z fanned formation. While that was exploding and everything giant rings above was also explode. The effects above were mainly comet rings to red stafe shuttle and crossettes comet rings with crackling center. After this I can remember one segment were different multi colored peonies with coco core were exploding in a 3 layered fashion wan in the center then 2 above it then a large one. Together with this was also multi colored peonies with glitter cores. There was also a segment with color changing chrysanthemums. The 3 middle shots were exploding from left to right then the two higher shots explode then a large green to orange peony on the top then the middle peonies exploded from right to left then the same thing follows. There was also a strobe segment that was mainly composed of 2 color changing peonies from red to white strobes then giant white strobes on the top. There was also a part with giant red spirals. One part was made of different colored dahlias. Some were yellow and some were yellow with orange. On top of these dahlias were lavender dahlias. Their crossettes segment were made of many red and orange crossettes. Some pink and blue crossettes were also present. After this was a barrage of chrysanthenum that were fired in z formation and they were like meeting each other. After this was many peonies exploding everywhere making a great finale. After a sudden pause the display comes back to life again. Just when everyone thought the display was over a new segment started. This time it started with horsetail mines in just one side of the both. I think that due to the rain only the half side of the fronts where fired. After a few shots of the golden horsetail mines were charcoal horsetails and on top was charcoal willow to red or green. After this a cake in a z pattern fired. The effect was multi colored falling leaves. Above these where also shells of multi-colored falling leaves with fish. Another segment was composed of z comet to crackling chrysanthemum cakes below and silver electric comet shells above. The only bad comment I could make about the show was that half of the fronts didn’t fire but the phase of the show was fast enough for the audience not to get bored. I think that the fake finale had a big impact on everyone. The shells used were great especially the multi colored peony with glitter core and the red to white strobe peonies. The finale started with golden tiger tail crossettes. After a few shots white peony added in. The phase increased in more and more for quite a long time. Then the final blow was made of many deafening salutes I couldn’t even hear my shout but when the salutes ended I realized that I was shouting so loudly hahahha
Fetes Et Feux of France
The display started with a salute segment. First it was just pointing up then as it got a bit faster the salutes were firing left then right then left and right. Then the first shots of roman candles fired with an orange with silver crackling tail effect, 3 to the left and 3 to the right. Then a barrage of salutes fired making everyone in the audience deaf hahaha. After this was a carpet bombing of a multi layered double cored peonies.
The main display started with red comet with silver tail candles. It was arranged this way \/ \/ \/. Then some more added up arranged this way \\\\////. Then back to the orang crackling comet candles. After that red comet candles started firing again tohether with a red mine cake! This time charcoal comet with crackle candle in a large fan formation went up. As this was firing low breaking peonies with crackling core in red was firing. A crackling crossette cake started together with green peony with white then charcoal coco pistil and cylindrical crackling chrysanthemum with salutes fired on mid level. This segment ended with another multi layered bombardment of crossettes making the sky filled with smoke.
The next Section started with a fanned light blue roman candle. Silver comets in a 3 pointed fan added in with a silver go-getter-ish mine on the middle. Another set of the light blue candles went up together with more comets this time all pointing up.As the blue candles finished more silver comets fired 4 to the left and 4 to the right. Then the silvers mines added in again this time there was just 4 with a gap somewhere between the last two ones.More of this fired in a fan this time together with shells of palms above. Then blue mines arragned this way \l \l \/ l/ l/. Blue peony with crackling pistils added in. A final 3 shot of shells of palm brought the segment to a close.
The next section shows different kinds of strobe effects. It started of with 2 double cored chrysanthenum. The outer core had a silver comet to green strobes effect while the inner core had a purple strobe effects. Above were 3 smaller green gamboge chrysanthenums. In the middle of this two were 3 palm shells. This theme continued and a barrage of smaller white strobe shells brought this section to an end.
The next section started with orange with silver tail comets arranged like this \ \ \l/ / /. This continued for a while then purple go-getter-ish mines added in, in a fan position. This continued and changed to candles of orange crossettes with silver tail with blue mines below. Above was 2 yellow peonies and one blue peony in the middle. This pattern continued until it became all blue peonies. Next was the final shot of the 2 yellow peonies. The next variation of shells were 3 blue peonies below and one big purple peony above good color combionations i thnk.
After this was a section made of crossettes and peonies. It started of with yellow candles. After a while a fan of orange peony and yellow peonies fired from left to right then 2 purple crossettes fired above. This theme continued. Below a fan of charcoal to crackling candle replaced the previous yellow candles. This segment was brought to an end by a barrage of different colored far falles.
The Next section started with green candles with silver tail. Large and thin green crossette mine candles and silver comet candles made the lower portion thicker. This continued with a fan of pinkish crossette mine candles with the same colored chrysanthenums above. This continued and below a great fan of silver flittering crossette fired with green candles and green peonies above. After a while silver comets added below and a fan of green sky mines fired with silver palms and large green peonies with crackling pistils above. As the green sky mines ended green with silver tail scrambling comets added in in the middle above. As thesecotinued the effects chaged to green with silver candles below and green to silver comet peony above and in the middle were silver chrysanthenums. This long section came to an end with Large silver kamuro shells and barrage of large red peonies.
The final segment started with great charcoal horsetails. I could tell that the audience liked this effect a lot. They even cheered more when silver horsetails with green strobe added above. This horsetails reached the water hahaha. Below a fan of green candles with red mine cakes below fired as the horsetails were changed to golden willows. As the candle and mines ended willow comets fired and bigger golden willows fired above, at this time i could tell that this will be a long finale!. This continued with more and more willows in different sizes. Orange crossettes with silver tail also added in. The willows stopped for a while together with the willow comets then the pace got higher when salutes fired then more willows fired above. This just kept continuing until the audience were so deaf already. Then shells of golden willows with golden tails fired as well. This continued with more and more salutes and we heard the lift charges of the final barrage of shells. The final barrage was made of willows, red and orange crossettes and salutes. As the salutes below fired more salutes above fired covering all the willows with salutes as the flashes of the salutes came out the people could see the golden willows still reaching the ground.
This display has been one of the grandest display i’ve seen in World Pyro Olympics. The effects used were great. There were so many effects used specially with the roman candles. I really like their cylindrical crackling with salute shells. The division of each sections were also made clear by the barrage of shells. It was a great show overall. The finale was quite a big surprise. The length was perfect everyone was screaming for more and they gave use more. This year they probably used the most effects so far. And so far they have a big chance of winning the title.
Next week will be my most awaited country’s turn, Italy. Together with italy is Venezuela. I heard that both of these countries will show us great displays. Oh and it’s quite hard to pick my winner for this week so maybe you can tell me your own comments on the displays and if you have a winner then tell me hahaha!
See you all next week

In my post about the World Pyro Olympics 2008, I kept mentioning about the montreal fireworks competition. As I’ve said it’s my favorite pyromusical competition in the world! Each country has 30 minutes to show their pyromusical proness. The competition takes place in La Ronde, Montreal, Canada. This year i think that the participants are quite strong! One of them is actually joining the World Pyro Olympics yey! hehe!
So here’s the schedule:
June 21 – France – Prestatech Artifice
June 28 – Italy – Pirotecnia Morsani
July 5 – South Korea – Hanhwa Corporation
July 12 – Portugal – Luso Pirotecnia (My favorite hehehe)

july 23 – Canada – Garden City Display Fireworks
july 26 – Austria – Pyrovision GMBH.
july 30 – U.S.A – Pyrotecnico

Once again La Mancha Pyro Productions is organizing the third installment of the by now popular fireworks competition called World Pyro Olympics which is held in the famous Mall Of Asia. The event this year had a lot of problems with the schedule which could be obviously seen from the lousy changing of the schedules. I’ll try to update all of you everytime there’s something new about it! The latest schedule that came out is all saturdays of May starting from May 3 to May 31. As of now the participating countries who are competing are Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Venezuela. On the last night of the even the Philippines will show its proness with their own classical fireworks display.
Since I’m not new to all the participating countries, i’ll tell you a little bit about them.
Australia- Explosive productions is the same company as Show Fx. They won the 1st World Pyro Olympics and they produced the show of Westcoast fireworks in the 2nd World Pyro Olympics which also won. Their designer Anthony Foti was part of the firm Foti ’s fireworks which i known for their great displays in sydney australia.
Canada- This company is quite a new company but the designer is not new to the fireworks scene. Patrice guy has designed Pyromagic Productions’ bronze jupiter winning entry of Pyromagic in the Montreal fireworks competition which is the best pyromusical competition in the world for me. He also designed Glorious’ (china) show for the 10th Symposium on fireworks which people thought was a very competitive pyromusical show.
China- Glorious fireworks is one of the top fireworks manufacturer in the world. Last year they received a special award in the World Pyro Olympics. The award they received is the award for technical excellence. This was obvious with their display, specially how apparent their segments where. The combinations of the effects were great as well. What also got me into their show last year was their fast but great stepper sequence. A stepper sequence is a sequence made with roman candles. They are timed so that they could like their chasing each other.
France – Fetes Et Feux is a new company for me. They won second place in Fiori Di fuoco, Omegna, Italy beating countries from Poland, Russia, and our very own La Mancha Pyro Productions. I think that the strength of their shows is the artistic aspect of it. They have competed in the Cannes Pyrotechnique Festival and in Nuits De Feu which is also in france. Both competitions are one of the top pyromusical competitions.
Germany – Nico-Lunig is a popular brand in Germany. They have won quite a number of awards from the montreal fireworks competition. Unfortunately they’re the first team i saw in the World Pyro Olympics who had an obvious technical problem. This happened in the 2005 competition where their digital firing system got soaked in water due to strong rain before their display. After 5 minutes of their display. they had to stop and make Korea go first then they went back again to show their great display. Last year i’d rank their show 4th because of their great use of space.
Italy – Parente has been a great italian fireworks company. Their one of my favorites. They have great one shot devices and they have some great cylindrical fireworks which we might want to wait for. They have won in many different fireworks competition. They have won in the Courchevel fireworks competition. They’ve competed in Nuits De Feu, montreal fireworks competitions, Pyronale and they have their own fireworks competition called the Fiori di Fuoco.
Japan – Marutamaya-Ogatsu has to be one of my favorites also. Just like all japanese fireworks company, They have great spherical fireworks. Their star spacing is great and the symetry of their fireworks are great. They also have great pattern shells. Pattern shell are the ones that has many different shapes like a smiley face, apple, heart, atom shells, hello kitty face, and a figure of a man are a few of the examples. If you’ve seen the show of La Mancha in 2007 they used some of the great fireworks of Marutamaya in the beginning. Marutamaya is one of the pioneers of the use of digital stepper sequence and one of the best at it aswell! They have joined in the champion of champions competition in the montreal fireworks competition. Unfortunately they didn’t win but just to qualify to join there means that they have won in that competition many times before.
Korea – Hanhwa is not new to the World Pyro Olympics. They showed a great display in 2005. Showing what people called the magic carpet effect which we might want to anticipate for this coming competition. This year, they are also joining in the montreal fireworks competition for the second time. They have their own competition called the Seoul fireworks competition. They also have some great fireworks.
Venezuela – Venefuegos is a fairly new company. They have joined the Sound of Light competition in Ontario Canada. They also have won second place in Fiori Di Fuoco fireworks competition. In that competition they beat our winner Show Fx australia.
I hope that we’ll enjoy this years competition and for once don’t be bothered too much by the traffic because anywhere there’s an event this big we should all expect traffic anyways. And this traffic only means more tourism hehe.!
I heard that ticket prices would raise from 100 pesos to 150 pesos and VIP tickets would cost 1500 pesos. Tickets will be sold in the more popular ticket selling stations like Ticketnet.
